The Schinkel Family

OUR STORY

The original hotel was built in 1985 as one of the first Super 8’s in Canada. In the early 2000’s the owner then decided to become an independently operated hotel. The Schinkel family purchased the hotel and did a major renovation to convert it back into a Super 8 in 2013. Business was good and the team decided to add to the hotel in 2015. On Sept 11, 2015, a subcontractor working on upgrading the exterior was grinding some metal flashing on the exterior when a spark entered the attic through a small crack. In the mid-afternoon the attic space caught on fire and engulfed the hotel addition and a large part of the attic area. The smoke coupled with the water damage rendered the hotel a complete loss. Luckily there were no guests in the building at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. April 5th, 2017 was the opening date for the new Super8! The hotel has many building and guest amenities that we know you will enjoy!

The hotel has won several accomplished awards prior to the fire and recently won the prestigious Pride of Super 8 Award Canada in 2018 for their commitment to outstanding guest satisfaction, and was named Super 8 Hotel of the Year 2019. The hotel has been ranked #1 on Trip Advisor for over 5 months in 2017–2018 as ranked by travelers, a very difficult and proud accomplishment of ours.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

One area that we show our genuine care is through actively giving back to the communities we are lucky to be in. We do this through washing over 25,000 coats for the Koats for Kids program the last few years, working with local charities such The Bethesda Foundation and many more. Each hotel actively gives back to the community that we are located in.
